PCOSA Pittsburgh Presents:

Understanding & Managing PCOS: Developing Your Individualized Treatment Plan for Weight Management

Often times in women with PCOS basic beliefs regarding metabolism and weight do not apply. Frequently labeled as non-compliant dieters by society and health professionals alike, women with PCOS often internalize the frustration that practitioners feel while struggling to put the pieces together. We will examine some of the typical presentations of women with PCOS and the underlying physiological interactions that make traditional goal setting and expectations less realistic. We will consider a framework for more realistic goal setting, incorporating strategies for gently and respectfully working toward change. We will discuss specific examples illustrating the value of Nutrition Therapy utilizing Non-Diet strategies in the areas of nutrition, exercise, and body weight/size.
