Carol Fenwick, RD, LDN
Fenwick specializes in providing a non-diet approach to those seeking to lose weight, who have eating disorders, diabetes mellitus, heart disease, cancer, and other chronic diseases. She focuses on the total person and helps them to discover a healthier lifestyle. She directs a lifestyle program, "Mindful Living: A Non Diet Approach to Self-Care and Well-Being", which includes a multi disciplinary team of a psychologist, who addresses motivation, body image and self-esteem issues, and a physician, who oversees the medical component of the program. Fenwick believes weight loss diets do not last and only serve to damage the dieter's physical and spiritual self by leading to diet-binge cycles, eating disorders, and decreased self-esteem. Fenwick enjoys working with those individuals seeking to maximize their athletic potential through nutrition and fitness, no matter their age. As a member of the American Dietetic Association (ADA), the Sports, Cardiovascular, and Wellness Nutritionists group (SCAN), Nutrition Entrepreneurs (NE), and ACSM, she has current knowledge of the many issues arising in the field of sports nutrition. She has continued her education through many conferences presented by nationally recognized sports nutritionists and exercise physiologists. Another area Fenwick enjoys is providing community nutrition and fitness education through writing and speaking. She is a volunteer for the Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Association Support at both the national and local level. She hopes to impact her community by serving as a volunteer on the newly founded Buncombe County Fitness and Nutrition Council. As a national speaker for Quaker Oats Health Institute and Roche Pharmaceuticals, columnist for the Asheville Citizen-Times, and nutrition consultant for North Carolina radio, TV, and several national magazines, she promotes the messages that food is to be enjoyed and a healthy and fit body and mind can be obtained without dieting. |
