The PCOS Record - April 25, 1999, v1 n5PCOSA Conference updateWe're about a month and a half away from the second PCOSA conference. Here's a small blurb from an attendee of our first conference in Baltimore in 1997. I attended the first PCOSA conference, held in Baltimore in May of '97. I hoped to meet others like myself, and learn more about PCOS and the newer treatments. I certainly got what I came for, meeting dozens of women from across the US and attending sessions that featuring some of the top experts on PCOS and insulin resistance. The sessions were similar to college classes - serious, factual information and lots of note-taking. We also had time to share personal stories. They packed a lot into the weekend. I'd picked up "the basics" from the list serve and internet, but the conference made me feel really grounded in the latest developments regarding PCOS, which in turn made me more assertive with doctors. Although this is a relatively common disorder, there isn't a great deal of information out there. The conference is a great chance to become truly well-informed and empowered! As a reminder, the conference will be held June 5 - June 6, 1999, at the Arlington Park Hilton & Conference Center in Arlington Heights, Illinois. The cost of the conference is $199. PCOSA is offering discounts to lower attendance costs, too. Members of PCOSA can take $25 off the conference price. Early bird registrations (postmarked before May 15) will receive $25 off. Anyone traveling with a partner (multiple registrations) can also take $25 off. Detailed conference information, including room rates, registration, and transportation information are available at http://www.pcosupport.org/conference/99conf.html. A random drawing will be performed among those PCOSupport members in most need (with air tickets exceeding $300, and with financial need that will make it impossible to attend otherwise). The winner of the award must be prepared to pay the conference registration fee and take care of her own accommodations (Roommate assignment is available). There must be flexibility in travel dates due to limited availability of frequent flyer seats at peak travel times. The ticket will not be issued until conference registration is received. The deadline for receipt of requests will be April 30. If anyone is interested in receiving this travel award, please send an e-mail to conference@pcosupport.org and indicate "conference air ticket" in the subject line. As an alternative, you may write to PCOSA, PO Box 7007, Rosemont IL 60018, Attn: Conference Air. Thanks very much, to all of you, and especially to our generous friend who donated this ticket! If anyone else out there has extra frequent flyer miles they could donate, please write to us and let us know. Some very deserving soul would love to attend the conference with your help!
