The PCOS Record - November 3, 1998, v1 n3

The purpose of the PCOSA Record is to assist in the administration of the pco-support mailing list, to provide information to the members of this list about PCOSA, to educate members about netiquette, to bridge the gap between the pco-support mailing list, PCOSA, and Usenet's alt.support.pco.

Teens Get Support Through New PCOTeen List

\by Kate A. Pohjola

Do you remember how awkward your teen years were? Did you have PCOS as a teen, too? Finally, there is a separate resource for teens with PCOS. On November 1, 1998, the PCOTeen List was born.  The PCOTeen list, inspired by the many young women posting messages to the main PCO-support list, is meant for teenage or young adult members of the PCO community. This wonderful electronic resource will focus upon how PCO affects teenagers in the various aspects of their lives. There will be advisors and resource people on the list to provide information and resources for the list members.

To join the PCOTeen support list, please send a message to pcoteen-owner@lists.best.com

Ask The Moderator

By Heather Lubinsky

Dear Moderator,
I heard that there is a way to receive the messages one at a time and not in digest format - some cysters say its easier for them to sort - how do I change to the single messages?
Signed,
Wanna Try the Singles Life

Dear Wanna Try the Singles Life,
It's actually really simple! Send a message to pco-request@lists.best.com and leave the subject line blank. In the body of the message, type the word 'subsingle' without the quotes. This will change you from the digest version of the list to the singles version. If you would like to switch back follow the same directions above except the word you type in is 'subscribe' without the quotes. If you have any problems doing this, please mail me at pco-owner@lists.best.com

Dear Moderator,
Every couple of weeks I get bumped off the list and have to resubscribe. Why does this keep happening to me?
Signed,
On Again, Off Again

Dear On Again, Off Again,
This is usually caused by one of three things:

  1. Your e-mail account was full. When our server tried to send messages and got them bounced back, it bumped you off the list.
  2. Your e-mail provider was off line for awhile. When our server tried to send messages and they were "returned to sender," you may have been bumped off the list.
  3. Perhaps for some reason your e-mail provider is putting a hold on your account. They may bounce email, which would get you bumped off the list.

Here are some other suggestions:

  • Try checking your mail a little more often. Sometimes a full inbox can create problems.
  • You may want to consider using a web based e-mail account like Hotmail or Yahoo! - these don't restrict quite as much as some universities, and can also make sure that only pco mail goes to one of these accounts.

If you are still having problems, contact Heather at pco-owner@lists.best.com and I can look into it.
