PCOSA and Healthfinder.gov Join Forces to Provide Health Resources for Women
The PCOSA was recently honored by the United States Department of Health & Human
Services, Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion with inclusion
on the Healthfinder.gov web site as a resource for women with PCOS. Healthfinder.gov
is an award-winning government website designed to help consumers gain
access to accurate and reliable health information. The site is listed
as one of the Medical Library Association's "Top Ten" Most
Useful Web sites.
In order to be included in the project, organizations must meet specific
selection criteria. Resources must provide basic information on health-related
topics, and must be able to respond to information and referral requests
from across the nation. Resources for the web site are selected from
national non-profit organizations (such as the PCOSA), government agencies,
educational institutions, and libraries. About 1,500 different organizations
are listed on the web site as health information resources.
As the federal government's online resource for prevention and health
promotion, Healthfinder.gov helps consumers obtain access to credible
information about a variety of conditions, including PCOS. As new and
often inaccurate information is increasingly disseminated on the internet,
it becomes more important than ever for consumers to have a reliable
online source to turn to for answers to health-related questions. Just
like Healthfinder.gov, the PCOSA is committed to providing accurate information
that consumers can count on.
Says PCOSA Founder Christine DeZarn: "One of our main objectives
is to facilitate the prevention of serious conditions such as diabetes,
heart disease and reproductive health issues among our community. The
mission of Healthfinder.gov is truly in synch with our goals. Our alliance
provides great potential to help people."
Visitors to www.healthfinder.gov will
find information about PCOS, its causes, symptoms, and treatment, and
a link to the PCOSA as a valuable resource for those seeking more information.
A Health Library and several informative Consumer Guides are also provided,
as well as up-to-date news and medical developments.
