Stepping Up - Janelle Myers
Having just completed her reign as Miss Hawaii Plus America 2007, Janelle
Myers is organizing PCOS walks to raise awareness and funds through Chi
Zeta Theta Sorority, Inc. which is the first Greek-lettered sisterhood
embracing the plus size woman.
The sorority, which is expanding with "colonies" or active
chapters in a number of U.S. cities, was founded by Janelle in 2005.
Its focus: building self-esteem among plus-sized women while improving
their overall image within their communities. This is achieved by participation
in national philanthropic projects and locally, by mentoring young women,
ages 14 -18, and involving them in community service initiatives.
" 'Celebrating within, uplifting throughout' is our purpose," says
Janelle. "Our sisterhood empowers and embraces the plus-sized beauty.
It promotes diversity and sisterhood for us while letting our communities
know that we are strong, confident, accomplished women."
Chi Zeta Theta is currently constructing a new web site. In the interim,
they can be reached at: www.myspace.com/chizetathetasorority
